Standard Form

Clear, exam-focused notes on writing, ordering and calculating with numbers in standard form, including calculator tips, with fully worked examples.

A complete 17-page IGCSE guide to standard form. It explains what standard form is and how to spot numbers that look like standard form but aren’t. It then covers converting large and small numbers in both directions, and ordering and comparing numbers in standard form. The calculations section teaches multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting, including the adjustment step that catches many students out. There’s also a section on using the calculator EXP key correctly and reading its display. The final section applies these skills to real-world problems in astronomy, biology, population and area. Every method comes with step-by-step worked examples. It ends with a summary checklist and exam tips.
